Transmedia has many aliases: pervasive storytelling, multiplatform, cross-platform, integrated content. But whatever you call it, it’s nothing less than the future of storytelling. Transmedia guru Henry Jenkins defines transmedia this way:
“Transmedia storytelling is a process where integral elements of a fiction get dispersed systematically across multiple delivery channels for the purpose of creating a unified and coordinated entertainment experience. Ideally, each medium makes it own unique contribution to the unfolding of the story.”
For UME, that’s the key. Each element –website, video, social media, television, film, live events, ebooks and more – is used to tell a complete, standalone story that is an essential part of a larger story experience.
